Shared Services FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the shared transportation services program?
Sonora Union High School District, Curtis Creek Elementary, Jamestown Elementary, and Sonora Elementary School District have entered into a shared services transportation agreement which will establish a dependable, county-wide student transportation system, ensuring consistent and reliable access to education for all students in Tuolumne County.

When do the changes start?
The new bus routes will begin on Monday, January 6, 2025, upon return from the winter break.

Will the bus service be more reliable?
Prior to the initiative, persistent challenges, such as driver shortages, led to cancellations and the consolidation of routes which affected both elementary and high school districts. This initiative addresses these issues head-on, minimizing interruptions and building confidence in the transportation system.

Please note: during the initial phases, full coverage will take time to achieve. The shared service model prioritizes essential routes at launch and expands coverage as staffing levels increase.

What is the plan to fully staff the program?
At the start, the program will be staffed with 65% of the required drivers, enabling us to cover 75% of planned routes. The districts are working together to build a full, reliable team. Ongoing recruitment, hiring, and training efforts will continue throughout the year to reach optimal staffing levels and reduce reliance on substitute drivers, enhancing route stability.
